“…The arts have been an inseparable part of the human journey; indeed, we depend on the arts to carry us toward the fullness of our humanity."

-National Standards of Arts Education in USA

Contemporary art represents its diverse aspects by means of reading and visualising. Creating art is very much the same as writing; artists and writers observe and interpret the world around us by their visualization and language. By doing this, they open a window to the world and introduce new perspectives to us.

Perspective shapes our recognition to the world; therefore, each perspective constructs its own world. By reading arts, we go deeper into the artworks and launch into an unknown journey toward the artists’ inner world. In the journey, we are offered a wider viewpoint and a different angle to think, thus then extend and enrich our life experiences. Contemporary artists use language to discourse their concept, cultural background and explain the developing process of work. Their statement is equally important to their works of art. The audiences need to learn to read their arts, by which the deeper meanings from the creative process can be extracted.

The exhibition, “Art in the Library", presents fabulous art pieces and a great amount of valuable art books collected by the gallery director, Yu Yen-Liang. In this summer, we sincerely invite you to join us for the journey of reading arts and to explore the world of artists together.
