Liang Gallery is pleased to announce the upcoming solo exhibition “Playful Paradoxes" by contemporary artist Huang Yi-Sheng. Eight years since his last solo show, this exhibition will construct a visually dynamic scene, showcasing exquisite realistic techniques and profound allegories, inviting viewers to explore and question.

For the artist, “game" is not merely entertainment or leisure, but a metaphor, a way to explore the boundaries between reality and imagination, which embodies philosophical contemplation. The seemingly innocent scenes cleverly reveal the complexities and contradictions of contemporary society. For instance, in the work “Gentle Judgment", the fierce snow leopard contrasts sharply with the peaceful dove, alluding to the confrontation between power and the powerless.

In Huang’s works, the everyday coexists with the surreal, innocence intertwines with worldliness. The artist uses animal imagery, especially sparrows, to symbolize the individual’s situation in society. These small creatures on the canvas are both independent and part of a larger community, reflecting people’s struggles in pursuing freedom and self-identity. The composition and symbolic elements create a seemingly playful world, yet it is filled with profound reflections on major issues such as power, conflict, and peace.

“Playful Paradoxes" encourages viewers to examine the world around them with keener eyes, contemplating themes of individual and society, freedom and constraint, peace and conflict. It also serves as the artist’s response in an era of rapid AI image generation.

We sincerely invite you to attend the opening reception at 3pm on September 14th, to interact with the artist and delve into his unique interpretation of the motif “Playful Paradoxes".
