YEN SHUI-LONG

Yen Shui-Long was born in 1903, Shiaying, Tainan, Taiwan. In 1927, he graduated from Tokyo Fine Art College. Then he went to France to learn drawing and oil painting.

In his early life, people regarded him as a technologist. Yen was the first painter who was allowed to go to Lanyu, aboriginal protected areas, for doing research of Taiwan’s primitive art. This special experience made his works’ content related to aborigine subject. At the same time, he also emphasized the beauty of decoration in Taiwan’s primitive art.
